Obituary – Hulon L. Humphrey

Hulon L. Humphrey, at the age of 87, on February 4, 2025, at 7:55 pm, left his earthly body to go to his heavenly home. He was surrounded by his loving family in his home in Hartselle, Alabama.
Hulon was a loving, caring, and giving husband, dad, pawpaw, brother, and friend that touched many hearts throughout his life. Second to the love he had for his family, Hulon loved horses, and he spent his life training Tennessee Walking Horses. He trained and showed noted World Champions Royal Blend, Chill Factor, Coin’s Signature Edition, Pusher’s Redemption, Wild at Heart, Change in Command, Good Evening, My Beauty Mark, and Cash’s Baby Doll. His Alabama Champions included his favorite horse, Our Pin Up L, which he owned and loved, Go Boy’s Fancy Man, which his father Elmer raised, Chestnut Knock Out, Kenny’s Sun Beam, Vice Admiral, Mellow Yellow, Billy Mac Jr., and Delight’s Big Talk.
Hulon was born January 31, 1938, in Sparta, Tennessee, to Elmer and Illa Humphrey. He was the White County MVP Football player for the ’57 Sparta High School undefeated State Champions. Hulon served six years in the Tennessee National Guard, Troop B 1 st Recon Squad and saw six months active duty. He was awarded several shooting honors. He was a long time member of AWHA and ASHA and earned multiple Trainer of the Year awards. Hulon was also a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Trainers association for many decades as well as a licensed judge.
Hulon served as head of the ushers at Bethel Baptist Church in Moody, Alabama, where he lived for thirty years. He owned and operated Humphrey Stables. He then moved to Lewisburg, Tennessee, where he spent twenty-two years training and showing horses and serving at New Life Church.
Hulon was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Mollie J. Humphrey, who passed away April 5, 2023, his mother and father, and his brother Gaines Humphrey.
Hulon is survived by his son Malcolm D. Humphrey, daughter-in-law and care giver, Crystal M. Humphrey, granddaughter, Madison Leigh Humphrey, and great granddaughter, Baylor Monroe Humphrey, all of Hartselle, Alabama. Also, by his daughter, Kaye Swindell, grandson Brandon Swindell, granddaughter Brandi Swindell,
great grandson Owen Swindell, and great granddaughter Scarlet Swindell all of LaVergne, Tennessee. And two brothers, Gleason Humphrey of Winchester, Kentucky, and Dale Humphrey of Stanford, Kentucky.
Services will be held at London Funeral Home, 324 W. Church Street, Lewisburg, Tennessee, with visitation on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm and service on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 2:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery in Cornersville, Tennessee.
He will be greatly missed, loved and cherished by his family and longtime friends.
Pallbearers: Dick Peebles, Ray Beech, Chris Kelly, Kenny Hopwood, Buck Williams, and Gleason Humphrey.
